Tigers Lose Tough One in Lamberton

Springfield pulled out to a 3-0 lead, but the Long Sox kept chipping away until they won it in the bottom of the ninth. Matt Tews pitched a nice game, but just ran out of gas as Lamberton swept the season series over Springfield.
In the top of the third inning, Brandon Wilhelmi led off with a double. Bob Fink reached on an error before Ryan Sturm came through with an RBI single. After two were out, Dave Groebner crushed a double out to the deepest part of right-center field driving in Fink and Sturm giving the visitors a 3-0 lead.
After the Tigers scored their runs in the third, Lamberton pitchers Jacob Jenniges, Tony Ourada, and Derrick Jenniges combined to face just two batters over the minimum for the final six innings. No Tiger base runner was able to advance beyond first base.
Lamberton cut the Springfield lead to two in the bottom of the fifth when they bunched together three singles. They added another run in their half of the seventh, taking advantage of a hit batter and a double.
It was 3-2, with Springfield on top, going into the bottom of the ninth. After retiring the first batter, Tews surrendered back-to-back base hits. The next hitter flew out for the second out. That elusive third out just didn't come, as the tying run scored on a bases loaded walk. The winning run scored on a Tiger error to end the game.
Matt Tews went all the way and took the loss to move to 0-2 on the season. The 4-3 loss to the Long Sox drops Springfield's record to 4-4 on the year and 3-4 in the Tomahawk East. The Tigers will travel to Hanska to take on the Lakers on Sunday afternoon. They'll be looking to get back to .500 in league play with the match-up against their National Division rival.
