Tigers Start 2006 Season With a 10 Inning Victory

A's Defeat Tigers In A Quick Heartbreaker

5/20/07

The St. James A's spoiled the Tigers' home opener at Riverside park in just one hour and twenty five minutes.  Both starters were very efficient with their pitches as neither hurler threw over 100 pitches in their complete game efforts.  All of the scoring took place in the A's half of the second inning, as St. James took advantage of two straight hits and a Tiger error to plate the game's only run.

After the second inning, Tiger pticher Matt Tews faced just one batter over the minimum.  Springfield got a base hit from Ryam Sturm in the bottom of the second, but were unable to move him around the bases.  The Tigers threatened in the bottom of the fifth, when Sturm reached on a passed ball after a strike out.  Matt Baier laid down a sacrifice bunt to move him to second with one down.  A wild pitch advanced Sturm to third.  The Tiger threat was ended when the A's turned a double play as Sturm attempted to score on a Jon Diede grounder to first.  In the bottom of the sixth, Tews led off with a single, but was stranded at second.  Springfield went down in order for the final three innings.

Matt Tews picked up the hard-luck loss for the Tigers going all nine innings, giving up just one unearned run on four hits.  The Tigers look to get back into the win column when they host Sleepy Eye on Friday night.
