Tigers Start 2006 Season With a 10 Inning Victory

Tigers Corral Longhorns in Regular Season Finale

7/18/06

Springfield locked up third place in the American Division of the Tomahawk East League with a big win on a beautiful summer evening at Stark on Tuesday.  Brandon Wilhelmi was fantastic on the mound, giving up just one run in the complete game victory.  Wilhelmi sparked the Tiger offense by leading off the game with a double.  Matt Baier and Ryan Sturm followed with singles.  Springfield took a 2-0 lead and never looked back.  The Longhorns scored their only run in the bottom of the fourth when Wilhelmi walked the lead-off batter, who scored on a double.  The Tigers scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.  Two Longhorn errors and a big double by Matt Tews in the top of the seventh ran the Tiger total to eight runs on the evening.  The 8-1 win is victory number twelve on the season for the Tigers.  Springfield will open the first round of the playoffs with a best of three game series against the Gibbon Reds starting on Friday night at Riverside Park.

Brandon Wilhelmi moved his record to 4-0 on the year, giving up five hits while striking out ten.  Matt Baier and Adam Timm were both 2-for-4 at the plate for the Tigers.  Wilhelmi, Ryan Sturm, Matt Tews, Jesse Berg, and Andy Moritz added one hit each to the Springfield attack.
