Tigers Start 2006 Season With a 10 Inning Victory

Former Teammates Have Tigers Seeing Red

7/15/06

John Jenniges and Dean Reinhart played for Springfield in 2003 and 2004 before returning to Redwood Falls to play for the Redbirds.  On Saturday night, they led the Redbirds to a one-run win over the Tigers at Riverside Park.  Springfield started the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when Brent Weber led off with a single.  Andy Moritz drove in Weber with a base hit giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  The Redwood Falls offense turned red-hot in the top of the fourth as they used five consecutive singles off Tiger starter Brent Weber to put up four runs and take a 4-1 lead.  The Tigers battled right back in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of three hits, two Redbird errors, and a successful steal of home to regain the lead, 5-4.  Redwood Falls went ahead to stay in the top of the sixth inning when Reinhart led off with a single.  After Springfield recorded the first out of the inning, Redbird starter Jenniges launched a homer over the left field fence to pull them ahead 6-5.  Redwood Falls added another run in the seventh to make the lead 7-5 going into the bottom of the ninth.  In the home half of the ninth, Moritz drew a walk with two outs.  Matt Baier and Ryan Sturm followed with singles bringing the score to 7-6.  A groundout ended the Tiger rally just short.  The loss drops the Tiger to 10-10 on the season.  They travel to Lamberton to battle the rival Long Sox on Sunday night.

Brent Weber and Jon Diede handled the mound duties for the Tigers.  Diede took the loss, his first on the season.  The Springfield offensive attack was led by Ryan Sturm and Weber who each had two hits.  Brandon Wilhelmi, Andy Mortiz, Matt Baier, and Diede added one hit apiece for the Tigers.
