Tigers Start 2006 Season With a 10 Inning Victory

Tiger Bats Silent Against Lakers

7/9/06

Springfield started their busy Sunday with a make-up game against Hanska.  Offense was minimal for both teams, as the game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning.  The Lakers broke the ice with a successful suicide squeeze bunt to bring in their first run of the game.  The Tigers threatened, getting two on in the bottom of the inning, but were unable to score.  Hanska increased their lead to 3-0 in the eighth when they put together three straight hits.  They added a final unearned run in the ninth to bring the final to 4-0.  Springfield's record on the year moved to 9-8 with the loss.  They didn't have to wait long to get back on the field to try to get back on the winning track, as Leavenworth was waiting to begin the second game of the day for the Tigers.

Matt Tews pitched yet another complete game for Springfield.  The hard-luck loss moves his record on the year to 5-3.  Hanska starter Dayton Larson held the Tigers to only three hits on the afternoon.  Matt Baier was two-for-three and Adam Timm added a base hit to the Tiger total.
