Tigers Roll to Victory in Redwood Falls

Springfield was back in action on Friday night in Redwood Falls. Brent Weber made his first start of the season on the mound. The Redbirds scored first as they capitalized on a lead-off walk and two base hits in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Springfield plated single runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-1 lead they would never relinquish. The score remained 2-1 until the top of the sixth when hits by Matt Baier, Jesse Berg, Adam Timm, and Brandon Wilhelmi resulted in three runs for the Tigers. Springfield finished their scoring in the eighth when Matt Tews knocked in two runs with a single and Chris Sturm smashed a triple past the left fielder yielding two additional runs. Redwood Falls didn't go down easy as they batted nine in the bottom of the ninth, scoring three runs on a homer by former Tiger, Dean Reinhart, making the final score 9-4. The win moves the Tigers to 9-7 on the season. They are back in action on Sunday with two games at home. Springfield will play Hanska in a make-up game and then played their regularly scheduled match-up against the Leavenworth Orioles.
Brent Weber picked up his first win going the first four innings. Jon
Diede pitched the final five innings picking up his third save of the
year. Matt Baier led the Tigers at the plate going 3-for-3. Adam
Timm also added three hits. Brandon Wilhelmi, Chris Sturm and Jesse Berg
had two hits each. Diede, Matt Tews, and Weber all added one hit to the
Tiger cause.
