Springfield Defeats Gibbon in Eight Innings

The Tigers played a rare Saturday night game to make-up the rain-out against the Gibbon Reds on June 16th. The offense was clicking as Springfield scored at least one run in every inning except for the third. Brent Haseleu got the Tigers on the board in the first with a single scoring Brandon Wilhelmi. In the second, Springfield scored two runs taking advantage of RBI doubles by Derek Krebs and Wilhelmi. Krebs scored again in the fourth after a triple. Gibbon scored their two runs in the top of the fifth, putting together four singles off of Tiger starter Wilhelmi making the score 4-2. That would be as close as it would get. The Tigers took advantage of two walks and two hit batters in the fifth inning to plate additional two runs. Two runs in the sixth, one in the seventh, and three in the eighth brought the final tally to 12-2, as Springfield invoked the ten-run rule in the bottom of the eighth inning. The win moves the Tigers to 8-6 on the season. They will travel the Sleepy Eye to battle the Indians on Wednesday night in a big Tomahawk East American division match-up.
Brandon Wilhelmi and Jon Diede handled the mound duties for
Springfield. Wilhelmi went the first six innings, giving up two runs on
six hits. Jon Diede was perfect in his two innings of work, including striking
out the side in the top of the seventh. The Tigers had a huge night at the
plate, led by Wilhelmi and Haseleu, who contributed three hits each. Ryan
Sturm, Matt Baier, Chris Sturm, and Krebs all added two hits to the cause.
While Matt Tews and Andy Moritz chipped in one hit each.
