Tigers Start 2006 Season With a 10 Inning Victory

Tigers Notch a Win Over the A's

6/11/06

Springfield traveled to St. James to take on the A's on Sunday afternoon.  Adam Timm made his second start of the season on the mound.  St. James broke through with an unearned run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.  The A's increased their lead to two runs in the bottom of the fourth when Brandon Olson started the inning with a double, just off first baseman Ryan Sturm's glove.  Olson scored on a single by Justin Kaus.  The Tiger offense kicked into gear in the top of the fifth inning.  Springfield took advantage of three walks coupled with four base hits to score four runs, taking a 4-2 lead.  From there it was pretty smooth sailing, as Timm was aided by some good defense, including a webgem worthy play turned in by Tiger third baseman Jesse Berg.  After the bottom of the sixth, Timm gave way to Brent Weber who made his first appearance on the mound for the Tigers since the summer of 1995.  Weber mowed down the A's in the seventh and eighth before handing the ball off to Jon Diede who finished things up for Springfield.  The win moves to Tigers to 6-4 on the season.  They return home for a showdown with the Redbirds from Redwood Falls on Wednesday night at Riverside Park.

Adam Timm pitched six innings and picked up his first win, looking very good in his second outing.  Brent Weber threw two innings facing just seven batters and giving up only one hit.  Jon Diede pitched the final frame picking up the save in the Tiger victory.  Ryan Sturm led the Tigers at the plate going two-for-three.  Bob Fink, Brady Schwab, Jon Diede, Chris Sturm and Matt Baier all added a hit in the Tiger victory.
