Tigers Start 2006 Season With a 10 Inning Victory

Tews Pitches Another Gem

6/2/06

Matt Tews threw a shutout for his fourth victory of the season, as the Springfield Tigers defeated rival Lamberton on Friday night at Riverside Park.  Tews was nearly unhittable, facing only two batters over the minimum during his fourth complete game.  The only runs in the game came in the bottom of the third as the Tigers cashed in on a Long Sox error and a Brandon Wilhelmi single.  Brady Schwab drove them both in with a solid basehit.  That was all the offense Springfield would need as Tews rolled, facing just three batters in seven of his nine innings.  With the 2-0 win, the Tigers handed Lamberton their first league loss of the season and won their fourth straight, moving their record to 5-1.

Matt Tews was the star on the mound giving up just two hits, while striking out nine and walking just one.  Offensively Brandon Wilhelmi had two of the Tigers' six hits.  Adam Timm, Brady Schwab, Ryan Sturm, and Matt Baier all added one hit each in the Springfield victory.
