Tigers Start 2006 Season With a 10 Inning Victory

Tigers Come Out on Top in Offensive Explosion

5/28/06

Very few amateur baseball games have seen 28 runs scored since the switch to wooden bats.  The 18-10 final at Riverside Park was reminiscent of a mid-90s aluminum slugfest.  There were only three 1-2-3 innings all night in the marathon game.  Stark pitchers were wild, hitting nine Tiger batters and walking ten.  The Tigers and Longhorns exchanged runs in the early innings bringing them to a 8-8 tie after 5 innings.  Springfield scored a controversial run in the bottom of the sixth giving them a short-lived 9-8 lead.  The Longhorns raged back in the seventh, taking advantage of a walk and an error to score two runs taking a 10-9 edge.  Stark pitchers lost their control in the bottom of the eighth, as the Tigers batted fourteen and scored nine runs on just three hits.  Springfield capitalized on three hit batters, four walks, and two wild pitches in the inning.  The 18-10 win was the third straight victory for the Tigers.

Jesse Berg started on the mound for the Tigers.  He left the game after pitching to three batters in the fifth inning.  Brandon Wilhelmi came on to pitch the final 5 innings of the game, picking up the victory.  At the plate, Adam Timm led the Tigers with three hits.  Bob Fink and Ryan Sturm added two hits each, while Brandon Wilhelmi, Chris Sturm, Matt Tews, and Derek Krebs chipped in one hit a piece.
